One of the first memories I have is one of insecurity. I grew up being extremely conscious of the beauty marks that could be found all over my body. Although this specific example is exclusive to me, it is well known that insecurities fall upon people everywhere.
My photographic series Dots portrays these insecurities in our most vulnerable state. I showcase the psychological difficulties of facing the beauty standards that are placed upon us by others as well as ourselves. These photographs emulate discomfort in your own skin, and display the constant effort of battling the dysphoria that you feel when you look in the mirror. They contrast large with small and soft with sharp. They imitate dysphoria, forcing the viewer to look a little while longer and they create beauty in our discomfort.
